Good wishes to our learners for 2003 and moving thank-yous in return!

A picnic and a visit to the Planetarium (May 2003)

Our Saturday afternoon was filled with plenty of picnicking and a unique view of the universe that surrounds us. We all enjoyed a picnic of rolls and cakes whilst having a look at different career options and discussing future plans and past achievements. This was followed by a wonderful visit to the planetarium. More about the visit to the Planetarium

The entrepreneurship course (2003)

The entrepreneurship course started today (Saturday 22nd March). The workshop was led by Dr Denise Bjorkman of Knowledge Universe and was primarily for the 65 Putco-Shell SA learners.

A little background. Dr Bjorkman paid her way through university in the 60's as she came from a family with a modest income. Her family did not own a car in their efforts to keep her at a private school. When she was accepted at university she decided to pay for herself. She conveyed to the matric learners that they too could do the same. More about the entrepreneurship course...

Social at Zoo Lake (2003)

We had a wonderful first social with our learners in February 2003. What a day - breaking the ice and career advice!

We enjoyed a braai at Zoo Lake with our nine learners and Friends' Trust members. We chatted about career options, our own experience in studying and working, and lapped up a motivational speech from David Monkman - a member of Friends Trust. More about the afternoon at Zoo Lake...

AIDS awareness play for our learners (2003)

During March 2003, our learners were invited to join other Star School learners to watch "Secrets and Lies" - a hard-hitting, witty and thought provoking AIDS awareness play. This production has been running in South Africa for over five years and communicates clearly the realities of AIDS and how our youngsters can protect their lives and those close to them. Debbie Davies from Friends' Trust attended the play with our learners.

Here is a photo from the day
